This thread's purpose is threefold:
  • To keep myself accountable for reading these books
  • To encourage myself to read more
  • To review the books I've read so that the person reading this thread right now can get an opinion on each book, and maybe save them some time if the book was for crap.

Books I've read so far in 2024:
  1. Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis
  2. The Millionaire Fastlane , by the man himself lol
Books I am currently reading
  1. The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien
  2. Unscripted , M.J. DeMarco
  3. TGRRE , M.J. DeMarco
  4. Speechless, Michael Knowles
  5. The 4-Hour Workweek, Timothy Ferriss
  6. Million Dollar Weekend, Noah Kagan
  7. Your Next Five Moves, Patrick Bet-David
  8. The Once and Future Roman Rite, Peter Kwasniewski
See my reviews of each finished book below.
(I won't be writing a review of M.J.'s books. If you are here on this forum, I shouldn't need to convince you. But obviously I thought TMF was great because here I am.)

Godspeed

Book: Mere Christianity
Author: C.S. Lewis
Rating: 5/5

Great book. It's a "must read" if you are Christian. Lewis offers a fantastic insight into very basic points of the Christian faith (hence the "Mere" in the title) such as Natural Law, the principle of why we believe in Christ, and a straightforward understanding of the different virtues and vices. He drops some truth bombs that I'm sure modern day Christians would find shocking, but are, in reality, fundamental Christian teaching.

Book: Million Dollar Weekend
Author: Noah Kagan
Finished: 04/26/2024
Rating: 4/5

This is a pretty solid book for entrepreneurs. It's not entirely comprehensive as M.J.'s books, but I still think it packs a lot of good information into such a short volume.
I think my favorite part of the book was his mention of the Law of 100. The gist of it is to do something 100 times before quitting to determine if you should continue. Don't stop once you hit "the desert of desertion", but keep going until you've done it 100 times. If after 100 times you honestly think you should stop, then stop, but don't quit beforehand.
A solid little book for every entrepreneur. Since it's so short, there's not much of an excuse for every entrepreneur to give it a read.

Book: Speechless
Author: Michael Knowles
Finished: 04/29/2024
Rating: 5/5

Michael Knowles has written one of the best books on the understanding of the First Amendment and how left-wing radicals have used speech and language to entirely upend our society. Knowles primarily scolds conservatives for their utter failure to condemn the left's usage of political correctness and instead submit to it or call for the "cancelling of cancel-culture" and praise "free speech" without understanding what it actually means.
Knowles states the incredibly "politically incorrect" phrase that our society ought to have standards, and that those standards ought to provide it's citizens with the ability to flourish. Our current liberal, decadent society does indeed have standards, but those standards promote obscenity, destroy any semblance of an ordinary society, and establish secularism and liberalism as the predominant religion(s). American culture and society was built on Christian values, and promoted a civilization in which virtue was good and vice was wicked. Now, we celebrate "pride" throughout the liberal calendar (see Pride Month, Trans Week of Visibility, and other PC claptrap), and we have active politicians who are openly socialist and communist - forms of government that are notoriously envious. Knowles goes into the ways in which the radical leftist celebrate the other Deadly Sins, but I want to keep this review concise.
If you're a conservative, libertarian, or even a liberal, this book will give insight into the ways in which the left has turned our society inside-out. Definitely a 5/5, no question.

"Books I am currently reading" and then 8 books listed :)
So you really read them all at the same time?
It's not difficult to switch "threads"?
Do you take notes? Do you have any special system for reading and retaining?

Btw, by the looks of your list I think our YouTube feeds would be veeery similar ;)

Great reading goal and thread @TempusFugit !

As an avid reader myself, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on some of those titles.

I'm with @CONAN about the several books on the go at once. I only manage 'switching' between 1 or 2 at a time or if I'm reading one of them again it's ok. Having said that my favorite books I've read over a dozen times (like MJs ), I find it really helps when you want to adopt the paradigms/concepts the author is sharing.

Definitely not reading them all at the same time. That would be wild.
I have a google sheet that I use to track my reading, and I put a note for which books I should read for each month.
1715258090263.pngI wasn't initially planning on reading 24 books this year, so that's why the first two books don't have a "Reading Month" associated with them, and it's why I'm catching up this month lol.

I do have a reading record. I put a note as to when I started and finished what book, and I write my general thoughts and reactions to the book. I usually write in it at my leisure.

And now I'm curious about your YouTube feed :eyes:

Is that something that you put online in the form of reviews and summaries or do you have them for yourself only?
And now I'm curious about your YouTube feed :eyes:
Religion: Jimmy Akin, The Counsel of Trent (Trent Horn), Pints with Aquinas (Matt Fradd), Apologetics Roadshow (David Wood)
Politics: Michael Knowles, Matt Walsh, Andrew Klavan
Business/Investing/Entrepreneurship: Graham Stephan, Iced Coffee Hour (Graham Stephan), Marko Whiteboard Finance

And some others... But I should watch less YouTube
