I guess this is a side hustle. Kind of a one-time thing though and one of the strangest things I've seen this year to make money appear. Could easily be a scam.
Every state has a department that processes unclaimed money for its residents. Tax refunds, abandoned safe deposit boxes, stuff like that. That part is legit. The site www.missingmoney.com says it a consolidator for all fifty states to help locate unclaimed funds. Kind of like all those ads for programs that scream "Get your free money from the government!!!"
Most of the information could easily be pulled from a credit database, but it did show addresses and companies connected to me that have never shown up anywhere else before. Official looking emails from New Jersey and Colorado say that checks are coming my way!!!
