I’m 21 and honestly pretty lost right now.
I know I want to build something for myself and escape the rat race, but I’m stuck figuring out where to even begin. I’m currently in college, but deep down I know this won’t get me anywhere meaningful. It’s not going to change my life or help me build the future I truly want.
I’ve thought about different paths. One idea I’m currently working on is buying a laundromat. I’m located in Brownsville, Texas (South Texas), and there’s a lot of low-income areas here. Laundromats in these markets tend to do well because people rely on them. It feels like a simple, steady business that could provide cash flow and get me started. I’m in the process of getting the financials from the owner to see if it really makes sense.
But even with that, I feel unsure. Is that really it? Is that really going to be the thing that gets me ahead?
Before this, I also tried to grow my Instagram profile (@chapatrades). I was trading live and showing my trades (using paper money). I actually had some solid wins and felt like I could build something around it, but I stopped. I didn’t want to come across like another scammy "signals" guy trying to sell dreams, even though I knew I had potential.
On another side of my life, I have a father who is a CEO in the agriculture industry. He sells grain corn, sorghum, cotton (sometimes transitioning into wheat) - and runs a serious business. Sometimes I’m there with him, trying to learn about the subject.
When I’m around him, I hear large numbers being discussed and see how serious and fast-paced that world can be. He travels often and works closely with people in the agriculture sector at a high level. Seeing how much goes on behind the scenes and the scale of it all is inspiring, but at the same time, it makes me realize how far I am from building something of my own.
So now I’m in this weird spot.
I know I want to do business. I know I want to build something scalable and real. I know I don’t want to work a normal job my whole life.
But I’m lost on how to start generating money.
The laundromat idea is there. Maybe the trading side too. But overall, in the business side of my life... I feel directionless right now.
I figured I’d make this my first thread here because I know some of you have been where I am and figured it out.
Any advice or perspective would mean a lot.
Appreciate anyone who reads this.
If you’ve been through something similar or have any advice on how to start and find direction, I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts.
