One of my clients just gutted their entire engineering and product teams. In software, product discovers problems, engineers fix them. As simple as that.
These people had all adopted AI.
But velocity was too slow. Actual customer value getting shipped was too low and infrequent.
I mean part of it is that standard engineering workflows need to be reimagined, probably rebuilt with agentic AI from the ground up.
The other half of it is that most jobs are bullshit.
Software engineers getting paid 6-figures and aren't fully in touch with solving really important problems for organizations.
There's two sides of the coin. Yes, change is happening rapidly. But if your job can get outsourced to AI, what value were you providing in the first place?
You obviously weren't providing enough human-to-human value - sales, negotiation with stakeholders, direct value to customers...
Nor were you providing enough human technical value - solving complex & disparate problems while using AI to do it faster and cleaner than before.
It's a really bad time to be a cog in the wheel, no matter who you are or where. If that's you, better get moving.
