    Writing/Kindle course advice?

    PUBLISHING
Waste of money. Unless the course is free, you're better off just reading threads here or on kboards and diving in head-first. There's no better way to learn.

That looks about right. Dabble in all of those things and you'll be well on your way ;)

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
I meant the cover on the actual Amazon page, where potential customers are seeing it.

[PROGRESS THREAD] ChickenHawk's Self-Published Fiction EBooks

    GOLD!
Congrats on taking the big step of actually publishing something - you're ahead of 90% of people out there! One thing I would say: I like the hand drawn idea of the cover, but the Y is cut off the edge of the book, and the shadow outline of your name in grey is redundant and also gets cut off...

This is just so completely untrue that I can't even begin to respond to it...

I use 2 different girls on Fiverr for all my covers. Been doing nothing but Kindle for 4 years now. So...it's possible to use Fiverr for covers and still succeed :P

    My Take on Self-Publishing

    PUBLISHING
    1. Anything 40k and above 2. Only if you don't care about the quality of the writing, or you are doing the writing yourself. $200 for a ghostwriter for 3 books will get you really low quality... 3. Yes, yes, and yes. Make sure you get writing samples and then have them write a sample chapter...

    Kindle Unlimited and Everything Else

    PUBLISHING
KU has certainly killed a lot of people's incomes. Shorts are no longer lucrative like they were. It's all about novels these days. So unless you go wide, it's better to try and write longer works.

    Amazon kindle or own website?

    PUBLISHING
Kindle exclusively for one term (while also using Createspace and ACX). Then wide everywhere through D2D, and on your own site, if you want.

    PUBLISHING
I can only speak for myself, but Kindle Research Tools are pretty worthless. To pick a Kindle niche, all you need is Amazon's website. They provide so many best-selling lists, drilled down into extremely tight niches, that you could easily do all of your research from within the site itself...

PROGRESS THREAD: How I quit my Job to pursue a Self-publishing Fastlane Journey

    PUBLISHING
I used to have a lot of success with bknights. Lately, it hasn't been doing much at all. But, big caveat, I'm not in KU. After KU2, Amazon's algos changed big time, and they really punish books not in KU. My income in non-Amazon sites is 4 figures a month, so I can't give that up, but if you...

Good Numbers from KU.. How are yours?

    PUBLISHING
KU2 is terrible. Killed permafrees, killed writers of shorts, killed new authors. Everything of mine is wide now. Amazon used to be 95% of my income. Now it's 50% or below most months. I sleep much better at night knowing I don't have to rely on Amazon's whims to pay my bills.

Feedback on Kindle cover and sales copy

    PUBLISHING
My $0.02: The blurb needs a lot of work. It's clear it wasn't written by a native-English speaker and (rightly or wrongly) that will turn a lot of people off. I've also found that keyword stuffing in the title doesn't work anymore. Turns readers off and Zon changed their algos to ignore it all.

I don't know if I'd go that far.... But it has been my only source of income for 3 or 4 years now :P

    My Writing Fastlane

You can find really cheap, and really good, translators on oDesk (well, Upwork it's called now), provided you can take the time to wade through all the crappy applicants you'll find...
