My first job was at McDonald's when I was 15-years-old. I worked three jobs to pay my bills in college (1984-1989). I was an U.S. Army officer and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division (1989-1994). I managed Waffle House restaurants for a few years until I realized it wasn't for me.
I then started learning about land surveying and civil engineering. I did this until I was hired to run the construction group of a non-profit organization in Atlanta helping fixed income senior citizens repair their homes.
I then spent a few years living in Israel until I didn't enjoy it anymore. I returned to the U.S. in 2010 and went back to college in pursuit of being a civil engineer. I completed my BSCE and MSCE in four years.
Now I'm the lead senior civil engineer for Jacobs in the Orlando office. Most of my work is with federal projects (i.e., DoD, USPS). My work focuses on site development and/or improvement, and I'm licensed in 14 States and the District of Columbia.
I also parachute jump with a few non-profit organizations. We just did several jumps into England and France for the 80th Anniversary of Operation Overlord. I've been active with this hobby and enjoy seeing guys I served with over 30 years ago. I hope to keep doing it for fun as long as I stay in good shape.
I make a good salary and can take time off whenever I want, and I can work remotely. I keep thinking that I can do more with my life. I initially joined this forum after reading "Unscripted" and got some good advice to learn more about myself and focus on what I want to accomplish.
Since then, I started to sort out my personal life and moved to Orlando for a new job. I've now been living here for seven months and very happy. However, I'm still thinking that I can do more with my life. Maybe I should just be content with a six-figure salary and stop looking for more, but I want to engage ALL of my capacity for doing more with my life.
