I have started a few businesses and invested much of my time and money already learning lessons the hard way. I just simply either didn't follow them through or just suffered from "shiny object syndrome". I'm a user interface designer based in Sydney Australia and while I'm good with ideas and design, my weaknesses are following things through, seeing them to success. Right now I am at the point where I am saving capital to invest in my next business. While I'm doing that I'm deciding on what that next business will be. In other words I'm doing my homework before just diving in. My goal is to own a holdings company that has many businesses within it, running themselves with managers. Do I expect these companies to be sexy? No. Do I expect them to be profitable? Yes. Do I expect them to run autonomously? Yes. Do I expect them to be strictly web/online businesses? No.
I want something that works. A business that can be marketed online however is not a web business itself. A business that is high barrier, high demand and possibly even boring to most people. My goal is profitability.
