Isn't it better to find out if it will sell BEFORE you spend a lot of time building it?

You can't "do what you love" or "are passionate about" all the time. You have to have the commitment to do a lot of awful tasks, like managing people and tax reports and filing, etc. For entrepreneurs, 80% of doing what you love takes doing crap you don't want to.

Pitching to Investors is a Sales Process.

    AMA
I have accomplished the goal I set out to accomplish, and that was ONLY to see if this is an appropriate audience for my book (which only launched a month ago and hasn't been marketed, yet). Apparently, it isn't. I didn't mean to insult, but I don't like to be insulted when the insulter...

I think I understand this forum better now. I was about to buy the Kindle version but read the preview first. Thanks for your critical feedback, which seems a little hypocritical since you demand that someone buys your book, sponsors the forum and buys ad space to get access to the very nebulous...

Pitching to Investors is a Sales Process.

First: thanks for the feedback. I AM doing customer investigation, trying to figure out this forum by putting thoughts out there and reviewing feedback to see what they want to hear. I'm sorry if it comes off like "selling". I've started six companies, four of which worked out quite well, and...

Pitching to Investors is a Sales Process.

When entrepreneurs try to raise money at any level, it involves a “pitch”. Pitching to investors can be defined within the context of a sales process where you and your idea is the product and the investor is the customer. There are some rules, but first, don’t pitch until you are ready...

I hate to keep this rolling, but.... "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" is such inane crap. I love drinking beer. Do what 1) you enjoy doing 2) you're good at 3) someone will pay you for. What THAT is, is the secret of life.

People aren't productively passionate about physical things, usually. They are passionate about the subjective things that it represents. You can be passionate about the freedom you enjoy on a motorcycle, or the feel of 106 CIs under your crotch, or the acceleration. Your friend might be...

This isn't a ad, but you might want to check my book, Startup Assembly Manual. No matter what you start, you have to figure out if you can generate motivated customers first. Without motivated customers, you really can't build a successful product or business. It doesn't matter if you are the...

You've heard it because it's true. Would feel good doing something you hate? That's like having a JOB!!!! EEEKK. Would you feel good doing something you don't do well? The trick is figuring out what endeavor will get you up in the morning, eager to move the ball forward. Self-assessment is...

Think about what you're passionate about, then what you're really good at. Follow your strengths, passions, and experience, but don't be tied to the baggage of previous jobs. You'll find something.

    Startup Assembly Manual

    INTRO
I'm new to the forum. After 40 years as a business-builder, I wrote Startup Assembly Manual to try to give aspiring entrepreneurs the benefit of my successes and my screwups. I hope to generate some reviewers and good feedback so the next edition will be the best product it can be. Available at...
