I'm not from the US or Europe—I'm from Kyrgyzstan, a country where almost no one knows about Shopify. The average salary here is $300-400 per month, meaning my earnings in one week exceeded the yearly income of an average local worker.
But after a quick success, I made mistakes that almost destroyed my business.
Zero ad spend.
I created viral content, posted it on Instagram, and linked my store in my bio.
The viral content started trending, gained millions of views, and in just one week, I made $40K with a 55-60% margin.
It seemed like a huge success—until the problems started piling up.
On the front-end, everything looked perfect—store, traffic, sales.
On the back-end, it was complete chaos.
What went wrong?
Every transfer meant fees.
In the end, I lost 10-15% of my earnings just on transaction costs.
And then things got worse:
This was a real nightmare, and I had to find a solution fast.
But I learned three key things:
At the end of it all, out of $40K, I was left with just $5,000.
And even that had to be split between me and my cousin, who’s my business partner.
For perspective: $5,000 is more than the average annual salary in Kyrgyzstan.

But after a quick success, I made mistakes that almost destroyed my business.
The Start
I was using POD (Print on Demand)—a business model where you create a design, upload it onto t-shirts, posters, or books, and a third-party service handles production and shipping. All I had to do was marketing.Zero ad spend.
I created viral content, posted it on Instagram, and linked my store in my bio.
First Big Win – November 2023
One of my meme t-shirt stores unexpectedly took off.The viral content started trending, gained millions of views, and in just one week, I made $40K with a 55-60% margin.
It seemed like a huge success—until the problems started piling up.
Back-End Chaos and Costly Mistakes
On the front-end, everything looked perfect—store, traffic, sales.
On the back-end, it was complete chaos.
What went wrong?
- No LLC or US bank account.
- Stripe and PayPal were registered under my brother, a student in Canada.
- Withdrawing money was complicated and full of fees.
- A customer placed an order, and the money landed in my brother's Stripe account (in Canadian dollars).
- He transferred it to his PayPal → then sent it to me (converted to USD).
- I withdrew it from PayPal to my debit card.
Every transfer meant fees.
In the end, I lost 10-15% of my earnings just on transaction costs.
And then things got worse:
- Stripe blocked the account due to "policy violations," leaving $9,000 frozen.
- My brother’s bank flagged his account and questioned the source of income.
This was a real nightmare, and I had to find a solution fast.
The Biggest Lesson
Fixing this mess took time and money. But I learned three key things:
- A business without structure will eventually collapse.
- It's better to register a company early and set up proper payment systems.
- Mistakes are part of the journey, but never repeat them twice.
At the end of it all, out of $40K, I was left with just $5,000.
And even that had to be split between me and my cousin, who’s my business partner.
For perspective: $5,000 is more than the average annual salary in Kyrgyzstan.
Why I Switched from POD to Traditional Dropshipping
POD is great for beginners and designers, but:- No control over the product or fulfillment.
- Slow delivery times.
- Hard to scale.
