Yeah, I can't comment much on the US. I have not seen enough yet. You said it right, though; it could work quite well if you're living in a wealthy area isolated from the problems. That sounds like a recipe for a truly boring life. He seems to want diverse, interesting experiences. This won't come from staying in the same place and doing the same shit until the day he dies.
Oh, so you've been to most of the classiest European cities? And you've seen with your own eyes how "unvetted" migrants stab every random pedestrian walking by? Damn, I must be a ghost then as I was for sure stabbed multiple times after spending time in Warsaw, Vienna, Berlin (the roughest city in Europe I've seen for sure but still not a dumping ground), Cracow, Budapest, Zagreb, Split, Venice, Athens, Zurich, or Malaga, just to name a few.
The alarmist fake news on social media paint every place in the world as a dumping ground. But then you go there and it's like one limited neighborhood you have no business to be in. The world is a much nicer place in reality that it is online.
And extremely hard to integrate as you'll never be accepted as a local, even after living there 20 years. Lots of energy and excitement in its mega cities, though. I visited Kuala Lumpur and it was extremely interesting and vibrant.
I have a love/hate relationship with the US and I need to write a proper post on my final observations on the US but I think that when you're making real money, it's nice to live in an area where you don't have to worry about crime or keep to areas for the rich. Or in other words, it's nice to live in a country that's more equal.
In the United States, there are for sure pockets where it's safe and wealthy and super nice but you always have to remember that you may be a potential target because there are so many desperate people. Compare that to a place like Switzerland where you wouldn't have to worry at all about being rich as nobody would even care.
What are the problems in the capital cities? I haven't been to all capital cities but I've been to quite a few and I don't get what you're saying.
I agree with that. I haven't been to Sydney and Melbourne, though. I particularly love how much of a healthy/active lifestyle vibe is going on there.
SEA is a love/hate for me. I love the nature and climate, but I would always be a tourist, and the poverty is difficult to ignore. Sure, yeah, someone could say, "Well, then do something about it." I can't save the entire world; I've already set my focus on a problem I want to solve, so I'd rather live somewhere where I don't have to feel bad for having it better than most of the people around me.
I'm from Eastern Europe myself, so obviously visited most of Europe. You're right in saying that the media makes it seem worse than it is. Apart from elevated (but not as much as the media says) crime and safety concerns, I just find big European cities very boring, and I'm not a fan of a 4-season climate. Sure, there's history, culture, etc., but I'd rather go to Southern Spain or Greece or Sicily than something like Paris or Berlin.
I do like Scandinavia a lot, even though it's mostly cold (and I prefer tropical).
Australia seems to offer everything. It's a well-developed country. It has large, clean, safe cities. It also has lots of amazing towns directly near the coast, and I couldn't tell which I like more; they are all amazing. The weather is amazing. You can find really hot year-round, and milder.
