Hi Everyone, Happy New Year!
I've been around the forums since 2011. I'm in my early 30s, and I live on the west coast. I've got a work-at-home 9-5 job in IT. It's flexible and pays ok, but in the end it's still a job - so I can't ask for a 50% raise every year
I've had a desire to "do something more" with my life since around 2007, after reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad." I began creating/selling ebooks in 2007-2008, then moved onto eBay/Amazon sales. Some struggles with PayPal and marketplace policies led me to eventually quit all ecommerce around 2013. I did some tech-related freelance in 2014-2015, trying to setup a digital agency/team, but it never evolved into a business and I got burned by non-paying clients twice (roughly $25k). I learned that suing someone isn't so easy, and neither is collecting judgments on professional con artists.
Between 2008-2015, I've lost an additional $25k on a few larger scale entrepreneurial projects and about $20k on stock trading (aka gambling), bringing my total investment/venture losses to about $70k to date. Luckily, I've taken lots of personal notes, made myself aware of my weaknesses/flaws, and I've tried to learn as best I can from the experiences.
During the same 2008-2015 period, I largely neglected my health and social relationships. I've since realized the importance of maintaining a balanced life; when I reach my financial goals, I would like to be healthy enough to be able to enjoy it, and possibly share the experiences with someone else.
Though I will never accept defeat, motivating myself after failures/losses has sometimes been difficult, which is one of the reasons I'm here - for motivation. I would like to post my goals and be held accountable for them, and hopefully encourage others as I gradually make progress.
I've read the book twice (text once, audio second), and I'm going through the audio again a third time now. I'm also reading the Contrarian Playbook and How to Win at Business.
Will start a progress thread soon to get going.
Cheers,
