At the beginning of this summer, a friend of mine and I quit our jobs at the car wash we were working at and started our own mobile car detailing business. I've worked diligently all summer getting all of the right systems in place for the business to be running well. While I have grown the business by adding a second van and set of equipment as well as a handful of employees, I still am trading my time for money. I'm constantly having to message customers through our Facebook marketing, doing the accounting, and still detailing the cars myself most days of the week. I'm making 3-4 times as much as I was making working my old job, which is decent for me because I have minimal expenses and save the majority of my money. I just worry that this business will never be fully automated and I will have to continue taking on a lot of the workload.
I'm about halfway through The Millionaire Fastlane and I'm amazed by how much potential there is for making money living this lifestyle. I'm deciding if I should continue working at my own business and trying to make it more passive or if I should sell the business. I own 50% of the business and my partner can't afford to buy my half of the business. I was thinking of offering him financing where he would take 100% of the business and he would have to pay me every month until it is paid off. This would free up my time and I would still be making some money from the business until I get paid off.
I consider myself to pretty disciplined. I get lots of sleep, wake up early, eat very healthy, work out every day, and stay motivated while completing tasks. I feel like I could be setting myself up with a better business that could be making more and worth more money if I were to free up some more time to do so. I'm not sure whether I should continue pouring my time into my detailing business hoping that it pays off or cash out and start my next project.
Another problem I am facing is that I'm not sure what my next business should be. I could go down the path of starting another physical business with employees (moving business, snow removal business), but I know that I may have to take on the same amount of workload that I was taking on detailing if I do that. Also, I don't have a large amount of capital to work with and if the business flops (not that I think it would) I don't want to be in a difficult financial situation.
The other route I could take with a business is an online one. I'm decent with computers, but I think I could learn a lot about website building and SEO. I just started dabbling with it when I made the website for my detailing business a few weeks ago. A lot of the online business world is a mystery to me and I find it hard to find actual good/helpful information on the internet about starting these types of businesses. It's hard to differentiate the good info out there from the bad on this topic because of all of the gurus and no it alls out there.
This might have been a little long for an introduction post, but I'm thirsty for more knowledge. I'm willing to completely devote my life to the Fastlane and I feel as if I'm already on the correct track as far as motivation and work ethic goes. If anyone reads this whole thing and feels like they could be helpful in any way, feel free to respond! I want to meet likeminded individuals who are willing to do whatever it takes to get going on the Fastlane.
