Hello All,
Just wanted to take my time to introduce myself. My name is Phil, I'm 22 and work as a linux engineer. I recently found this site this week and have been reading a ton on the forum trying to gain as much knowledge as possible. I've always had a entrepreneur mindset, but never perused fully some of the ideas I've had. The forum sparked me to really get into it now. I purchased the book yesterday, got it today and have read about 90 pages so far, awesome stuff. I'm the type of person who reasons about anything I do. My entire life I've never been persuaded or gave into peer pressure for things I didn't want to do or would get me in trouble. I've always kinda went against the grain, from a early age, I said I didn't want to go to college, I didn't feel like I needed a piece of paper to get the job I wanted or the money I wanted.
I graduated high school at 16, planning my courses out, and then going to summer school to finish early. I took a year off and started buying and selling stuff on ebay, which made me a little bit of cash for a 17 year old. I started learning linux when I was 10 from influence from my older brother. I got a job at 18 as a linux system administrator and now 4 years later I'm a senior linux engineer making almost 100k. Slowlaners would consider this good money, but it doesn't provide what the fast lane can give me. It can be stressful at times, I'm oncall, sometimes being woken up at the wee hours of the morning with customers needing critical systems fixed. I've already gotten tremendous value reading the book so far, and hope to finish it tomorrow or the next day. I'll continue to read and gain knowledge, and start to make some of the ideas I have a reality as soon as possible. I'm necessarily looking to have a ton of money to show off fancy cars, but have the freedom of time and also help my parents out. I help them out any way I can, and would stop at nothing to help them. They are almost an example of in the book, where it mentions they work their whole life and then at 65 what do they have to show for it, including piles of debt and lack of health insurance. Perusing an idea that could help change their life would be amazing.
I have so many ideas, it sometimes hard to stay focused on one, instead of being all over the place with many.
