In high school, Khabouth stocked shelves at IGA. He manned the fryers at McDonald’s until midnight. When his shift ended, he rushed to a second job, scrubbing carpets in buildings until 5 a.m.
He’d trudge home at dawn, sleep for three hours and then go to school.
His mother often cried. She begged him to stop.
He couldn’t then and he won’t now. It’s not just the work these days. It’s the type of work. Wining and dining thousands of strangers each night, entertaining thousands more, this is his addiction, his disease, maybe even his curse.
