Hey everyone, I used to be very active on the board but I took a break when I relinquished my last venture to finish college. Back with a BS in economics and attempting to set something up while I study for the GRE next month. I figure this would be a fun experience. I'm typing this from a plane so pardon if the first post is formatted incorrectly.
7 Days To a Profitable eCommerce Business
Day One
-searched for a product through various channels (Instagram, Pinterest, Family) and validated the need via keyword search volume and Google trends.
-found a niche product with zero main competitors for a product with roughly 10k unique searches per month.
-ran keyword searches on both short and long tail keywords and rated the top 5-10 websites ranking for each.
-decided it was a worthwhile product if I could find a supplier and so I began to look.. For a product that is somewhat in high demand, not a single supplier stood out for retail or wholesale.
-decided to go local and found only one supplier willing to sell to a startup looking to private label (which sucked, but I didn't let them know that and negotiated prices down slightly).
-midnight struck and I decided to do some brand name research as everything else needed to do had to wait until morning.. Picked a simple brand name and went to sleep.
Day Two
-drove to the supplier to get a sample product and it checked out. They also have a unique story which will add unique value to my product's story.
-made a label for the product myself (approximately 2 hours) after studying and blending ideas of a couple general competitors labels.
-decided on which ecommerce platform I wanted to use and bought my domain (exact .com match of brand name) and bought a premium theme (no need to do so but I love the theme and feel it converts well, especially via mobile)
-few hours of setting the website up and filling out original and unique copywriting (I feel like copywriting will always be a struggle for me, even as I do it more and more)
-set up an FB page, IG page, have the shop linked on Pinterest and have entered my keyword campaign into Adwords.
What I Have Left To Do
-price point research. I want to create a premium brand, seeing as how all of my competition is doing a very poor job marketing and their product is plagued with poor reviews and terrible labeling.
-shipping. The bane of every business.
-order the labels. Waiting until Tuesday to do so due to Labor Day weekend. Should be here within 1 business day.
-take HQ product images to feature on website, etc. right now using stock images purchased and a 3d rendered image of my product + my label.
-get into Amazon ASAP.
Results So Far
The product has not been cleared to be sold yet (currently says out of stock on the website) but the breakdown is as follows:
32 unique visitors
51%/49% desktop to mobile
84% direct, assuming almost all from Instagram
16% search, already ranking on my main keyword
0 purchases
I remain optimistic, even though starting over Labor Day weekend when I still need things to start was a gamble haha.
Any questions or advice, feel free!
