Which do you think is a better business model? I'm torn between doing 2 kinds of websites, both blogs
1. A comedy website. Similar to FailBlog, Icanhascheezburger, break.com, Fark.com
To me the pros are:
- It's super easy to just find funny news and video clips online and repost it with my own commentary on it.
- Since it's not a hard skill to acquire (like say fixing computers or cars), it's easy to hire people to post these items as well to help me out.
- If it's good it wont be hard to get attention.
The cons are:
- I'm not selling a product, I'm just posting funny clips. So I make money by page views, which is hard to make money from in my opinion. You need a LOT of views to get clicks.
- I'm not specific in any area. If I had say a fashion site, I can sell fashion items, but comedy is all over the place.
So its hard to be specific on what ads I show. Who do I advertise? The page loads and its an ad for Burger King, then reload the page and its ads for a cell phone, then reload and its ads for state farm. If its not specific then its less likely people would click it.
The other site Im thinking of is
2. A coupon site in a specific area, such as food deals.
The pros are
- I'm providing a service that is actually useful to people
- Easy to promote and tell people about it if its something they want.
The cons are
- If I go with food coupons I think it has to be specific to a local area, because its food. So Id have to pick 1 location, like say Chicago, and just constantly post food deals in Chicago. So its limited to that area. In order to grow I have to hire more people to look up deals in new areas.
- Constant 24/7/365 updating in order to have the newest greatest deal.
I guess I could go with coupons on different areas, such as travel deals, tech deals, kids toy deals, etc.
any thoughts?
thanks
