So I buy stuff from Amazon all the time. This is the first time I've received and email from the seller asking how the transaction went. My new phone battery was delivered this afternoon, this evening I got this email from the seller:
Hi Chad,
This is Dave from xxxxxxx and I want to introduce myself. I am the head of customer service and I am available to you for any questions or concerns you may have with your order. I would like to offer my personal assistance to ensure everything is perfect.
According to my records, your package was delivered and I want to follow up to make sure everything is as you expected.
For your reference here is some information about the order that was just delivered.

(I removed some info as I'm not sure if this is okay per Amazon terms, and I don't want trolls to know my address)
Think of how great this little bit of extra effort is. I have bought thousands of dollars of stuff from Amazon, most transactions are good, some bad. What that means is that if most sellers sent me this email, I would give them good feedback.
I remember Vigilante stating that he puts a note in his boxes requesting feedback. Guess what, I've never seen that either.
It's so easy to stand out in a sea of money chasers. Just ask yourself, what can I do to add more value for my customer--what can I do to go above and beyond? No doubt this email is sent through an automated system, but how much better is this company at catching problems before they go public, or just getting customers to give them feedback.
Be different, be better. It's quite simple.
