About to begin kickstarter

After advice given to me in another thread, I've decided to begin using kickstarter to fund my project. However, one concern lingers in my mind: if it turns out that my project is a flop, will those funds have to be returned or is it as simple as just canceling the funds? Also, could I still use kickstarter in the future for other potential ideas/projects even if this project is unsuccessful? Thanks.
