I graduate in a few weeks from a non target school with a liberal arts major and a high GPA. I have a few interviews for sales jobs next week. I got one sales offer so far but it is not ideal and less then I made when my business was doing good. Sales seems to be skills that transfers over to entrepreneurship and I am interested in those "jobs" as they do not have a capped commission structure.
Some background. I have always been entrepreneurial and started two businesses since I was in highschool. The problem is neither were scalable. One, I make close to $100 an hour but am only able to do it a few hours a week due to weather requirements and clients only being available summer weekends. Great side income though. Another is putting together concerts which made big money (felt big when I was in college atleast) but has dwindled down to only making a few thousand a show. I am not sure I even want to stay in the nightlife industry regardless of profits as it is fun but a huge headache working with people who are on drugs, alcohol, etc. I also buy and sell on ebay but that is really small and just for some side cash.
A lot of you will look down at a "job" and I somewhat agree with you. Although at the same time, if I was making enough to achieve goals and enjoyed workplace I might be happy with doing the "slowlane" sales job and having money to invest in real estate and start businesses on the side. Or maybe I am wrong and would hate it, I won't know unless I try it though. I also see a benefit in having at least some work experience that I can bounce back on if I ever need to build up capital in case businesses fail, etc. If I can get myself in a lucrative sales position is one thing, I would never be happy with low paying position. I did two internships and found them to actually be nice experiences and even gave me some business ideas. Any advice for what sales jobs to apply for? Pharma, medical supplies, etc. I am going to start some interview coaching next weeks to get better prepared as I missed a huge opportunity last week by screwing up a phone interview.
I have about 15k saved up, car payed off, a couple thousand in inventory. I got a few concerts planned for the fall.
I have several business ideas. They require WAY more capital then 15k and now that concerts aren't as profitable, I am a bit more conservative with going all in. I have an 800 credit score and almost six figure line of credit just from cc's. (0 debt and never payed $1 of interest, I used to game credit card rewards and profit).
A couple ideas I had were indoor shooting range with conceal carry classes, large scale summer music festivals, fully legal online pharmacy where clients fill out online evaluations and you charge a premium for medicines (not narcotics). Can I realistically get loans for these type of ideas without assets or significant income or do I need to find an investor?
Any advice appreciated!
