So without being overly detailed, here's the short version of a long story...
Earlier this year I was introduced to the owner of a holiday lighting business. After a few months of discussions, due diligence, and negotiations, a sale never materialized. For a number of reasons I can discuss in greater detail below, the fact that there's a very low (if any) barrier to entry in the space made me decide to start my own from scratch. I took a mentorship course on how to do the installations, got introduced to suppliers, and have tons of resources at my fingertips for how to run one, but my biggest failure has been the inability to build a team (which I realize now I could have done better with earlier this year).
This is obviously a seasonal business, and at this point I'm realizing that it's likely not in the cards for me to expect any meaningful growth unless I lay out a lot of time and resources in the hopes of threading a needle in the next month (which I'm not really willing to do).
I should mention that I already have a full time job, so this was meant to start as a "side hustle" or ideally something I thought I could run while still working my day job.
At this point, knowing that I'm likely past the point of expecting a huge return this year, I don't necessarily want to just sit on my hands and do nothing until next year. I'd like to try pivoting and making some money with this business in the off-season.
And that's why I'm here - does anyone have any recommendations? I have some ideas of my own, but I'm not sure if any of those are really worthwhile pursuits.
So that's my story. I'm happy to hear stories or recommendations from anyone who has been in this space before (or even now) and whether you were able to pivot to another revenue model in the off-season.
