I've found that a transactional, overly reactive, its about numbers mentality robs you of your TIME, their time, and productivity that can leverage future success.
Instead of counting dollars, count people, count smiles, count progress, count the times they support you.
It is these things that lead to inner strength, and in my experience, business models mean nothing without the PERSON.
Don't force this positive atmosphere in order to get sales, instead just remember "who do I want in my rear view mirror? Vampires, or guys that just threw me ahead". Empower the right people and build the trust that will do that.
Don't be the guy who WANTS to succeed alone. Be the person that people want to buy a drink when the work is done.
Cut costs but don't be cheap:
I find that looking at my customers as guardian angels is a cool thing, when you also remember to set reasonable boundaries. Get the good stuff to them in the most concise way, but keep the calm and relaxed attitude that comes with talking with people and letting them have time to enjoy and imagine.
Be generous, and don't STRICTLY expect it in return. Instead, laugh, kneel down, and give them a few more things to help, and send them on their way happy.
Cut costs because excessive costs are just a waste of people's hard work and time. I look at cutting costs as respecting the time of my workers/partners/casual helpers, by stretching what they accomplished as far as it can go, rather than wasting some of that work by thinking I'm too good to keep a tidy operation.
