I almost made the mistake of 'going after your passion'. Once I realized this and did more market research I found the demand vs. competition was fairly stiff and I kept asking myself 'why would they purchase this product from me'?
After not coming up with very good answers I decided to move on and keep researching, however I knew this market is still under served and started researching related niches within the same general sub-culture.
I searched for a few hours and all of the sudden it hit me. Something I've had such a hard time finding and there's literally thousands of threads on another forum of people using all types of workarounds to get it. Duh. This one seemed a no brainier. I checked google analytics -- 140k search terms for this in 1 month. All the way down on the keyword terms competition is 'low'. BAM. I found it. There's only a few websites offering this and the quality is extremely low except for 1 website. I checked the Alexa ranking and it was climbing fast in the past few months. Perfect.
I go to register a domain name immediately, two of them in fact. Even the domain name had one available that had the NAME of the product IN IT (which gives high google rankings). What? This is WAY to perfect. I couldn't believe it. I immediately send out multiple emails to potential suppliers.
The response : Sorry but it's illegal to sell this product outside of X country. (the current websites make the product inhouse in the US, which explains the crap quality of most of them)
Dammit. Well I guess that's why it was to perfect. Still I won't give up and will find a lawyer to see if there are any loopholes.
