I decided to give aMember a try so I installed the free trial version to get a feel for it. I had a few weird problems but their support people fixed them right away. Since this is just the trial version I really expected to be left on my own but they are great to work with.
Installation was actually quite easy, much easier than they let on, but they'll do it for free if that sort of thing makes you nervous. (I don't know if that applies to the trial version.) Configuring it is much more difficult and you really need to take your time and be careful. I guess you could pay someone but that wouldn't be any fun and you wouldn't learn anything that way.
On the downside, the online manual/wiki is somewhat incomplete so you need to have patience and a bit of intuition. It's probably impossible to create a manual that covers every little problem but their support people make up for it. Also, you need to click every link in the admin area to make sure you aren't forgetting something important. The .htaccess information, for example, is hidden a bit and I only found it by accident. A getting-your-site-up-and-running checklist would be nice.
I'm going to be using it with Plimus. I've never used them before but the support guy really impressed me and I want to give them a shot. Integration is straightforward but I'm not used to the Plimus interface so that slows me down a bit. I had one problem with this but the aMember support guys fixed it.
Anyway, if you are on the fence about trying aMember, I would say to try it. Just be sure to give yourself a day or so to get it all figured out. Also, expect a few bugs but don't let that bother you, they will fix them for you. Finally, it's not for beginners but it won't kill you to give it a try anyway.
I loooooooooove membership sites. I haven't had one in a long time so it is nice to be getting back in the game.
