Being an entrepreneur takes the ability to selflessly remove your perception from the wants and needs of your personal opinion to the wants and needs of the people around you. Sounds easy, huh? The problem is that not everyone wants the same thing, and not every entrepreneur can be truly accurate on the statistical view of a majority. How can someone create a product and know for a fact that a product has a living, breathing market?
My answer lies in a method I've adopted with a few of my (future) Fastlane colleagues that not only ignites the creative little boy that lies inside of each and every one of us entrepreneurs, teaches our minds of the Limitless Boundaries that have not yet been crossed over, but creates a bird's eye view of the potential intrinsic value of whatever it is you feel like could impact your target thousands (or millions). It is highly advised to partake in this habitual practice with a partner because it produces efficient ideas and filters out the possible selfish ones that sometimes serves only a personal purpose.
Now onto the exercise. After winding down a good day of living life, start a journal that I like to call the "Entreprejournal", and list two ideas for a product/invention/business system/whatever onto the sheet. Now, let me stop you there, because there is a specific mindset for both of the first two. The first idea should be something well within the observation of your brain: something quite plausible to plan and and execute with just the right amount of resources. This serves as a warm-up for your brain as you prepare for the big journey.
The second one should be an inspiration that delves a little deeper into the creativity of the mind. This idea should be something that scratches the boundaries of your brain, tickling the sense of "I could never" and broadening your eyes to the LIMITLESS possibilities that truly exist in the entrepreneurial world. These are ideas that usually inspire me into deep thought after I finish my two for the night, arousing obsessive dreams over the designing and the marketing processes it would take to create this second idea.
IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING THAT INSPIRES ACTION!
Now here is the kicker: The whole purpose of the two ideas is to jog your brain into a burning desire to find the answer to the two problems you created in your mind before sleep. If you truly put thinking into the problems, there should be an itch to explore the various solutions. A whole night obsessively dreaming about an idea that MATTERS vastly expands the "boundaries" that hold our confidence back in creating and inventing. Now as you awake from your sleep, we follow up with a Powerful third idea that has hibernated upon 8-10 hours of consistent creativity and problem solving.
This third idea should be ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! It should be something that the world would doubt it's very existence. Doubt drives us entrepreneurs. Think really hard about this third idea as you rouse yourself from an enjoyable night of dreaming and yearning for the Fastlane life.
Taking these three ideas every three days/every other night/every night (pace yourself) to your colleagues and sharing all three of your ideas can create some very heavy sparks in the furnace. You have the power of TWO ELATED MINDS compared to your own. Your mind has the sleep to create a beautiful environment for free thinking and free dreaming.
The easiest step is marketing opinions: ask the people around in your community about the "possibility" of something like that happening, and its impact in their lives. The power of Statistical Analysis is a very powerful thing, because the laws of mathemetics allow us to accurately estimate the views and thoughts of others by simply taking a sample of the parameter (population). The magic number here is 30! 30 people or more allows variability to water down and cause more precise results to your polling.
