TL;DR at bottom.
So there is this new app which came out 2 months ago called "live.me"
Basically, people get on this app and broadcast themselves to fans. In exchange, people donate virtual diamonds (which are bought with real money) which can be turned back into real money for the broadcaster.
Here are some points that raise a red flag for me
So what do you guys think? I am just curious if this is an elaborate business model to get as many users as possible or if somehow, these young kids are able to convince their parents to give them money to donate to somebody acting crazy on camera. I think the creators of this app somehow were able to create bots/distribute money to the start users, and are using it to keep broadcasters interested by giving the illusion of making a lot of money constantly when it is only temporary. The social media followers of the famous people obviously join the app to watch the broadcaster and this creates a big user base.
TL;DR There is an app called live.me. It seems like a regular social media app that looks like it is blowing up but at the same time mostly unheard of. There are some things about it that sound like an elaborate business plan constructed in China to make this app grow extremely fast.
Maybe I am over thinking this and those kids actually are able to use their moms credit cards to buy coins...

Basically, people get on this app and broadcast themselves to fans. In exchange, people donate virtual diamonds (which are bought with real money) which can be turned back into real money for the broadcaster.
Here are some points that raise a red flag for me
- The app has bots, many many bots with peoples pictures and captions. You know they are bots because they have 4-10k followers yet do not have a single stream. They have real pictures of people, which I would assume is illegal to use if you are an American based company.
- My brother is somewhat social media famous, he was lured into starting broadcasts by the owners of the company by a 1200 dollars a month contract for broadcasting at least once a week. He started, kept asking for the contract to go into effect, but they never replied to him or kept replying without really giving an answer. He then met them at their booth at Vidcon (a social media convention last month) and they once again told him to contact them through email and they kind of blew him off. He said they were Asian and barely spoke English at the convention.
- After he got lured in, he started broadcasting and is raising to the top on the app, he has over 30k followers and in the last couple weeks has been making anywhere from $150-$600 a day! Wow!
- The problem is, some of his top contributors that have donated ($200-400) do not look over the age of 12. Like literally. Where do these kids get that kind of money? It is like they were given it by the creators of the company to get the apps ecosystem moving and told to donate to the top broadcasters.
- My brother actually facetimed his top contributor who has donated $400 in the last month, he asked her how she can afford it and her reply was "I don't know." Sound like something fishy right there.
- Him and I did a test, he had about 3000 viewers at the current broadcast and they all love him, he told them that his phone was dying and that he was going to stream on another account. He told them multiple times to go to another account he is using and he will do a coin drop (virtual currency, little kids LOVE COIN DROPS), only 100 of those ended up coming. So it is obvious that most were bots.
- Another suspicious occurrence that happened is that there is a user who has over 85k followers. My brother says that the broadcaster has been making $2000 a day in his broadcasts for 4-5 hours of work! Holy crap. Anyway, two days ago he got on broadcast, stayed for an hour doing his usual thing. Only made $15 and left because he wasn't making money.. Now that is a big inconsistency. It is like they feel like they got enough of the followers from this user and moved on to other users but I haven't checked today so I don't know for sure.
