I was wondering if I am the only one who hates the idea of buying and living in an apartment, with strangers surrounding you.
I came to realize that living in an apartment is not frowned upon cause everyone does it, but if I look at it objectively, it's a pretty shitty way of living:
1. You can't choose your neighbors.
2. You can't make a ton of noise or do what you want to do (parties, loud music, etc.).
3. You may generally be surrounded by "losers" or people who don't get it.
Compared to living in a house/villa:
1. No neighbors on the other side of the wall.
2. More room for meditation and introspective thinking. Isolation is actually beneficial to you even if society says it's bad. My most important turning points in life happened when I was isolated. This is comparable to going to the mountains away from everyone and living there a few months. This is because you have less distractions and social influences pulling you in a million directions.
3. You can possibly use it for business or capitalize on it.
4. Can be more "fun" than an apartment (swimming pool, sauna, home theater, etc.).
Sure, there's also a steep cost difference. But I realized, you only live once, why settle down for an apartment if you don't see yourself living that life? So I personally decided to keep renting an apartment until I can save enough money to buy or mortgage a proper villa.
And look at the richest men on earth. Do they live in apartments or villas? Even the most frugal of millionaires/billionaires still live in a house, which says something. I can't imagine Bezos living in a condo, for example. It would be absolutely hilarious.
