No? Well good! You shouldn't because it's not! I titled this thread to illustrate a point that I think doesn't get talked about enough, and it's CONVICTION. I think when you read this thread title, your first reaction should have been "Hell no, let me go in there and give him a piece of my mind", or "Yes I do, and here's why", and not "Hmm, maybe, errr I don't know, I guess it could be, I mean maybe I had it all wrong, hmm perhaps blah blah blah".
Something I've noticed again and again when trying to help people think differently is they don't say "Who gives a shit?" enough. They have "conviction" only until someone challenges their idea or opinion, and then they are back at square one. All it takes is for someone to disagree with them for them to think they are wrong and to start looking for a new answer. Someone throws a stone and their whole kingdom collapses.
What people need to realize is that pretty much everyone has opinions based on their limited exposure to something. An example I can give is from this very forum. A lot of people, including MJ himself, has a negative view on affiliate marketing, something I do and am very proud of. Why do they have that view? You name it, from it's not real Fastlane, to it doesn't provide value (the business owners who I produce revenue for disagree), to blah blah blah. Since they've only been exposed to one subset of affiliate marketing and nothing else, that IS affiliate marketing to them. What they don't understand is affiliate marketing is an industry that encompasses many different things, and there are hundreds of ways to approach affiliate marketing.
Whenever I hear most people's opinions on affiliate marketing, I compare it to me giving my opinion on real estate. My opinion would be that no one should get into real estate because flipping houses didn't work for me. See how crazy that sounds? Flipping houses isn't the only thing real estate is about, it's only a microcosm. Same as someone saying no one should get involved in Finance, because one time they bought a penny stock and it tanked. The opinion holds little value to someone investing in municipal bonds or working as a quant.
At the end of the day, if you've made your decision to do something, and you have legitimate reasons, then just F*cking do it. Go through with your idea, and then succeed and scale, or fail and learn, but do it and stop asking for people's opinions on whether you should do it or not before moving forward. For every successful business venture in a certain industry, there were probably tens if not hundreds of failed ones before them. What if instead of just doing it, the Google founders instead went to ask everyone their opinion on if they should create a search engine? "Nah save your time, Altavista, Lycos, etc." What about Facebook? "Are you crazy? Have you not heard of Myspace? Save your time and go invest in real estate". Just move forward, and let the market speak for itself. If people aren't buying, then you have your answer, but now you have hard data to back it up, not someone's opinion. If your business ventures are only based on other people's approval, then it will only take a couple of disapprovals to destroy them.
