I have been reading/researching a lot lately on web businesses and wanted to get some opinions from fellow members here that have been doing this for a while.

I'd say back in the late 90's, it would cost several thousands of dollars/year just in order to setup a web-business. As technology advanced and progressed, the cost for website design, hosting, software's have progressively declined. About a decade ago, you could start your own web-business for little over grand +/- a year. Nowadays, you can start your own for just couple hundred bucks a year. It seems like now is the best time to start your own web business right? But the way I look at it and I don't mean to sound pessimistic (just playing the devil's advocate), it seems like the annual costs of operating your own web business and competition are inversely related. Generally speaking, seems like the entry barrier is much easier thus large amount of imitators. I had several ideas that I wanted to check and see how many competition there were online and it just seems so saturated now. Whenever I come up with an idea, it seems like I was several years too late and there's already a very good #1. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here.

Ex: A 1 stop site where only college students with valid college email addresses can go and decide who they want to room with based on criteria such as max monthly amount, major, personal values, etc. It would be like a social media site but for finding roommates. There are already a large handful of this and I noticed one formidable website that's about to launch in a few months.
Despite this, I always try to think positive and for other more approachable ideas with several factors in mind.

Anyways, what are your thoughts?
