I will state this with one undeniable point.
"You cannot assume that you can go without food"
People on the sidewalk look at buying food as yet another purchase in the hassle that is money but you cannot expect that even one day without food isn't going to F*ck with EVERYTHING.
I've gone one day without food whilst trying to make cash. You go delerious, your muscles get eaten up, and you need more food to recover than you would have needed to sustain yourself. I learnt the hard way, you cannot assume that food is an abstract danger, it is instant.
This also goes for shelter. One night without shelter can endanger your life, opening you up to being mugged, attacked, raped, or exploited. They are immediate concerns.
The problem is not so much the system, the problem is when you hold the assumption that it doesn't matter. Nothing will sink your aspirations faster, than no food, no place to stay. The assumption that you can aspire to anything without money is false.
To aspire, will require plane tickets, it will require phone calls, it will require internet, it will require uninterupted subsistance based products, including gas, electricity etc. If you have the assumption that these things are wishable objects you need to FIND out why you are making this assumption and you need to make sure you have an attitude that is one hundred percent clear in asserting that these needs are assuredly met, double checked, and given backup via opening communication channels with friends and family.
You need, to keep certain sales not only above the line of these costs, you must assure it doesn't slip under it for even one day, not only this, you need to have double checked and BACKED that up weeks, months ahead of time.
Beurocratic obstacles such as bank processing time, and business hours are very key when assuring that all these needs are met. You cannot afford F*cking up the timing, or you might find that a place has closed, because of a delay or mistake in your processes.
You must also be aware of events and the unforseen. Losing your keys, an unexpected bank holiday etc etc.
I learnt, never assume that you will have time, because to assume you will execute everything on schedule assumes that you will execute RUTHLESSLY, meaning you will run over that old lady, you will not call the ambulance for the guy having heart problems and you will turn down a friend that called you in distress and needs you right then and there.
These assumptions kill your aspirations with one F*ckup or mistiming.
Do not irrationally FEAR them, instead, uncover the assumptions before they ever become a problem.
I know that in every business risk I take, that I cannot risk past certain thresholds, I am aware of my financial mortality, and it gives me gusto, it makes me reach out and give someone a DEAL when I forsee that a chain of events might leave me with an exposed wire.
If you don't manage effectively, you will get in debt very quickly.
Sidewalkers are full of FEAR and ASSUMPTIONS.
Breaking these assumptions are KEY to taking on the "fastlane" path, because risk is part of biz, and you have to question your assumptions, otherwise, your ego will kill your dreams by making subsistance too difficult to find whilst pursuing risk.
Start somewhere, and then aim to get rid of all assumptions that endanger subsistance in ALL realistic scenarios. Start with food, one day will F*ck you up, because your aspirations won't allow crime, or dumpster diving, do ANYTHING different from normal and your aspirations go down the drain. There is no realistic way to ignore your needs. So never let your assumptions be so bad that you will ignore them.
That is really the lowest level of having a good head on your shoulders, when you get better at it, you know that a business arm can't just get chopped off without risking the company, and you see how important certain distribution channels and deals are way ahead of time.
Don't be one of those guys that thinks buying business components is a luxury item. Understand cruciality, know what will bend you, and don't ever assume that nothing can BREAK you.
Additional:
Always make notes about friends who are entering "risk" cuz you gotta cover that too.
Also, don't buy into the idea that this is taboo to think about or unworthy of your time and effort, it expands into stronger biz skills and can be a crucial decider in if you can make it, or not in the end. If you aspire to be something CHECK your blindspots, check both ways before you cross the road, cuz if you don't develop a sense for this and budgetting, then you risk a nightmare derailment rather than RESISTANCE.
Resistance is good, but subsistance based costs shouldn't be treated as resistance, you have to handle it, master it, be unflinchingly precise and free of errors. Never budget subsistance costs with resistance costs, they need a different attitude.
In relation to how this affects you as a person:
If you do this right, nothing about money will ever threaten your life and make you angry, you can handle it in a way that makes sure you have time to help others as you go about your daily needs. Its worth spending the time on it, so that you never are forced to be short with anyone or ever bring fear into biz deals (cuz you should already have that done).
Handle your assumptions properly and the windows will start to open.
And if you are ever up shit creek, don't freak out, focus on the thing you need most, and create a plan, backup plan and a few options. Whilst doing them, work on your assumption in regards to THAT thing, and keep caaaalm. Offer people the gift of observing your integrity in this scenario (that they fear) and ask for what they would offer freely. Don't beg, or lean on your friends, show a little vulnerability and willingness to help repay the favor. Show people that they can "think outside the box" and that you will make good on the promise. Never take more than you need, cuz your dire situation will push you outta that hole if you have subsistance.
Remember that FEAR is useless, after the point of going UNDER.
Always keep an asset you can pawn/sell around that isn't sentimental or essential. A watch, bracelette, iphone (if you have a computer or can borrow a friends).
