If you look at my post history, you'll see that I got on here 3 years ago, working at Taco Bell and building a blog. Looking at that fresh passion and excitement I had made me want to shed a tear. I went totally AWOL and stopped posting. I lurked a little. I was working at Amazon delivering packages this year. I finished that website I mentioned in my "cherry popping" first post, and yet I sleep on a couch and my car died. I have made ZERO with the site, and I want to tell you WHY and the reason I feel I am at a crossroads. Here goes:
My dream of all dreams is to be in show biz- an actor, writer, producer, director. I don't care if it's a children's TV show or adult entertainment- I want to be one of the folks responsible for the work that goes into whatever it is you're watching when you turn on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney, or even Pornhub. I want to entertain.
Which is why I haven't monetized my blog in the 3 years I've been paying for my Hostgator baby account. 11.95 a month and yet I haven't affiliate marketed or released my own product. Part of it is imposter syndrome/analysis paralysis. Even though I'm a good writer and creative type (if you're an investor and want a solid movie or TV show concept, I have an arsenal full of them in every genre), and have gotten good feedback from other people in my niche, as well as a tiny email list with MailCheat(Chimp), there is ONE big fear that's holding me back, unable to figure out to send the site out to pasture or not:
Cancel culture. Yes, you heard me. I actually fear success. See, what if I DO make it as an actor, screenplay writer, whatever? Everything-- every little mistake I have ever made in the past will be analyzed. The only saving grace I have is my intelligence mixed with my handsomeness. As well as being young. However, if cancel culture can get to Jimmy Fallon and J.K. Rowling, I don't think ANYONE is safe anymore. "It's in the past, it doesn't matter!" is a line in "The Lion King" said by Rafiki the baboon. Sadly, he would be rolling over in his grave in 2020.
What does cancel culture have to do with my business, you wonder? Without giving too much away, my website is in the dating and sexual relations realm. It is not completely anti feminism but it does have some criticisms. It's mainly for men which means sexist! My plan was to make a sister site for women though. The sites are basically self improvement sites which offer tips and tricks on becoming better with the opposite sex, and is sort of old fashioned, but with a lot of humor and sarcasm. Everything said in my blog posts- if connected to me assuming I land a big film or show- could be analyzed (satire or not.)
I could be overthinking this but I can't keep paying for a site I don't know what to do with. I worked pretty hard on it though. It's a WordPress site. If I cancel my account with Hostgator, I lose everything unless I back it (which I'm not even sure how to do in totality).
I'm looking for some guidance on how to proceed. I'm 28 with like 1K in the bank. I don't know whether to go ahead and go all in the site and make a product (I did buy a Panasonic Lumix GH5 with my stimulus check) or to learn a new business model (perhaps Saas-- building a screenwriting software, starting wedding videography business, ecommerce-- dropshipping, nutrition consulting, copywriting, etc.). What do?
Somethings gotta give...
