A friend suggested I look at some ebooks on Amazon that had done well, and their corresponding audio books. The audio-books were just the author reading the book, which seemed - boring. It would not have been difficult to add some sound effects. Which got me thinking, with some work, he could have a radio-play.
I think radio-plays are not nearly as popular as they were "back in the day" (circa 40s), but audiobooks seem to be coming in to the mainstream (if not already). A radio-play would be better than a book for listening, for example, instead of prose saying he "He shouted her name over the thunder-claps of the violent storm", you could have audio of the guy calling her name while playing the sound of thunder. The listener's brain would be more fully engaged. It would be better, though the market would be smaller.
Is this already happening? It seems like the obvious thing to be doing, but I have not listened to many audio-books.
If youtube had a way to insert a "commercial" in to a radio-play, an engaging drama with cliff-hangers before commercials might make some decent money. Just like they did "back in the day".
