So almost every day I click onto the FL Forum, there is usually a new post saying, I have read Chad Mureta's book and I read so and so's thread about apps, and now I am going to get rich off of iPhone apps. And I keep asking myself WHY?
People have suddenly began to think that if you can throw a couple grand at a developer and get an app made, you will soon enough be sipping pina coladas on some foreign beach surrounded by gorgeousness babes, easy as 1,2,3. Let me tell you RIGHT NOW, ITS NOT!!!!! Sure there are some people like Chad Mureta and Allen Wong who have made hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars off of apps, but how many members on here are app store success stories? How many people on this forum are driving Lambos around because they made an iPhone or android app, sure there are people who make millions off of a mobile application like Chad and Allen, there are also people who make millions of dollars a year playing professional baseball, do you know how easy it is to get to that level of baseball, it's near impossible even if you are the most absolutely athletically gifted kid in your town, their is always someone better! Besides, you know where Chad Mureta is making the REAL CASH? He's making it selling his book, he has probably made more off of his book than all of his apps combined, it is the classic guru pitch! Also, do you know how many apps actually even BREAK EVEN? Before you take 3 months of your time or throw away a couple thousand dollars, read this: iOS app success is a “lottery”: 60% (or more) of developers don’t break even | Ars Technica
Also ask yourself if you are meeting the CENTS requirements in your app, does the world REALLY need another iPhone game? Are their people lined up waiting to buy your game because it will help them somehow? Don't even get me started on entry, every bob, bill, and buck are making iPhone apps, you don't need any coding knowledge all you kneed is a couple spare grand and a wonderful imagination of wealth and riches. Are you in control of your app, can you spend your money on a stupid little iPhone game and then the big boy apple says "nope, we don't want this game in our market", you bet they can. S and T work but if you justify 2 out of the 5 CENTS elements as making a viable business then you need to read the book again!
So, please I beg you, before you waste your time and money, look long and hard at the opportunity before you decide to make an app, the time where making an app has a great possibility of making you rich is OVER, now, it is just like any other industry, except highly competitive and over saturated. Just because some of the members on here (myself included) are currently making an app, does not mean that YOU should to, it is NOT easy, there is a HIGH probability of failure. Really, if you are so uncreative that you just want to piggy back off of other fastlaners ideas, then you are not a true entrepreneur, you WILL have a better chance of making money doing something original and innovative that SERVES A NEED than going "oh, well thing 1 and thing 2 are making apps, so I might as well too".
Think about this post, also, I will answer any questions or angry comments you may have about this but this post and it is simply the rambled truth that I have been constantly thinking while seeing a new "I'm making an app" thread every f*cking day!
