Monthly Update - December 2024
I got started late in December, so most of this was done in the last week.
1 — Sidewalk Non-Mortgage Debt
£27,508.42 (as of 23/Dec)
Paid off:
£23.97 (refund claimed)
Remaining: £27,484.45
2 — Slowlane Budget
Weekly Food, Fuel, and Clothing Budget for me and three kids (after all bills are paid)
£100
Week 1 Spend (27/Dec to 2/Jan) - £40.89
3 — Fastlane Business Cashflow
IN
£150 Seed money (combined cash gift from my Dad for my birthday and Xmas)
OUT
-£5.55 Fastlane forum
-£8.63 Domain name
-£28.66 One year hosting (missed a trick here as hosting usually includes free domain name - annoying!)
BALANCE
£107.16
4 — Activities
Research on successful (£100k+) competitors’ accounts filed at Companies House, their social media journeys, activities and pricing.
Videos watched on the process of making soap and candles.
30 day free trial for a platform offering a soap-making course (among others)
Videos watched on running a crafting business and selling at craft fairs.
Started decluttering things to sell to feed cash into bootstrapped business account (pay 50% proceeds into business, 50% into debt payments).
—Traded in a pile of books for £10.20, payment not yet received.
—Sorted out some jewellery to take to the auction house to sell to convert to cash.
—Sorted out a pile of girls clothes to sell on facebook marketplace
Decided on a business name and created a logo (took about 5 minutes).
Hosting research to find something cheaper than upgrading my old blog host.
Priced up candle costs from raw materials and researched prices from suppliers.
Decided to launch with 8 variations. Need to formulate 8 products.
Created facebook page.
Registered domain name.
Bought hosting.
—Installed wordpress and woocommerce. Also wordfence and rankmath.
—Set up SSL.
—Installed free theme.
—Designed home page with launch in spring 2025 banner
—Created business email account.
—Signed up to free email marketing with kit
—Added email sign up form for 15% launch discount.
—Created google analytics property and integrated into site for tracking.
—Added site to google search console
—Submitted sitemap for indexing
—Added site to uptime monitor
—Created privacy polity and cookie policy pages for legal requirements
—Pointed domain to new nameservers
—WEBSITE LIVE
Made a list of local craft fairs. Next one is 2nd Feb (ambitious) if I can do enough practice production, create enough stock, and get set up by then (need POS machine, website, social media, and info for stand). Need public liability insurance (~£60) and to book a table. £15 booking fee. Otherwise, March 2nd. Thinking aim for 2nd March to be fully prepared and give me enough time to be happy with the production process and all branding.
