I have been bootstrapping cash on craigslist for the last 2 years. I have found a good market in flipping certain items and not so much in other areas. Some of the good items I have found to flip have been motorcycles and cars. However there is a problem when it comes to the titles. It is not good to float the title and sometimes the buyer has a problem with it. Its always sketchy and stressful. But the profit margins are usually great. The other problem I have run into is picking up the cars. Its not really a one man task. You need a driver and often times nobody is around when that BIG deal comes up. You will not have this problem with the bikes. This is the reason I have moved to flipping bikes. However you will need to invest in a pick-up truck.
Are electronics worth flipping? I have heard people making fast profits on items like cell phones. However this market scares me a bit. You can get stuck with something bad real fast. For example, Stolen items. How do you really know if the phone your buying is stolen? It seems like a big gamble and a real fast way to lose $300. On the other hand these items move FAST. Especially apple products. This is important. Many times you buy something and end up waiting months for a buyer. Its similar to stocks. You want something people have high interest in. If there no buyers you are going to end up stuck with something you don't want. The market predicts value.
Collectibles: I have found big sports card collections for cheap money on craigslist. This could be a good idea with big profits if you have the time and patience to part them out on eBay. However the card market is pretty dead and many cards will not sell.
Jewelry: Find name brand jewelry. These can often be bought on CL for low prices. Often times after a break-up girls will put there jewelry on craigslist at cheap prices. They are selling on emotion. However this can be risky if you do not know the market. There are lots of fakes out there. I just bought a fake Gucci 3600 watch. Still cant sell it. I got burned so I am marketing it as a replica and nobody wants it. But I will not screw someone else over and market it as authentic. But that's all morals. To each is own.
Hope this helps someone here.
