Just thought I'd share this...
I'm in the process of liquidating my current company with my partners. The other day, a pretty nice Range Rover pulled up and two very well dressed guys got out and delivered a long box to one of my partners, talked with him for a bit, then took off.
I asked who they were, and he said he's been friends with them for a few years. They were dropping off a new "Business Closing Liquidation" banner as a favor. They started a company called BuildASign (dotcom) around 2006, and have done extremely well. He didn't know the exact numbers, so I took it upon myself to do a bit of research.
Apparently, these guys are making huge waves in the sign-making industry. I found a tech company who featured Buildasign in their .pdf case study last year that revealed a few interesting stats: $10m revenues and from 4 to 70+ employees in 2 years.
How did they change the game? They custom developed cutting edge web and printing software that allows signs to be created from their website extremely fast, and with just a few days turnaround to your front door.
I know ecommerce isn't the greatest model online nowadays, but they've created a pretty high leverage situation it seems.
Also, judging from their "press room" and "overview" sections of their website, their pretty on top of things from a marketing and PR standpoint. The promotions and PR they've done are pretty genius if you ask me, I can't imagine their traffic and sales not bursting through the roof after this: BuildASignâ„¢ Donates $1,000,000 in Free Signage to Boost Hurricane Affected Economies, or similar.
Anyhow, thought I'd share.. I always get fired up when I hear another success, especially online and in my home town. Certainly it'll be of interest to many of us here!
