I finished reading all three of MJ's books in Early December. They were eye-opening to me and since then I have been researching ideas for my first „Fastlane business“.
In the past, I started with some ideas but didn’t see instant results, so I decided to commit to this one. (At least get ONE sale, don’t quit before that, that's my minimum goal).
So let's start right away:
Intro
When I'm not working I love playing guitar, so I know there is a huge market for guitar equipment of all kinds. Basically, there’s almost a subculture of guitar stuff aficionados.
So that’s the niche my business is based on.
The first steps:
I started designing my first product in early/mid-December. I’m an architect and CAD/ 3D Design is one of my strengths. I created a digital version of my product in Autodesk Fusion 360 and made some renderings. I tried to upgrade everything I personally don‘t like in existing solutions. ( + I started a poll in a Reddit sub to figure out what bothers people)
The type of Product I'm making is usually black so I figured a cool value skew would be to offer different colors. (I ended up with four).
Testing:
Next, I needed to figure out how to get some feedback on my design.
First I created Instagram & Facebook accounts.
Usually, I would buy a domain and create a WordPress page. (Action faking)
So this time I decided against it and just created a landing page with Canva & MailCheat(Chimp) (Worked great and took me about 10 Minutes to set up)
I tried to make it as simple as possible:
Brand name > What's the product > Register for more information > Renderings with the 4 different colors
I just used the MailCheat(Chimp)-generated address and set up one Facebook and one Instagram ad.
When I woke up the next morning (three days before Christmas) about 10 people had registered on the landing page.
I posted some more renderings and information on Instagram and people started to ask questions (Where to buy, When is your product available). So, not a bad sign.
One Instagram follower even sent me an Audio Message describing what he didn’t like about other Brands' products!
