I quit my job two months ago and began consulting on some Federal software projects. Originally my goal was to grow my company into a small federal contractor company. After researching the industry and reading The Millionaire Fastlane , I've changed roads for something that's a little more fast lane. From start to first contract can take anywhere from a year to 4 years as a new contractor. My research has shown that the federal contracting industry isn't meant for the small business owner, despite what the laws say. After reading the Fastlane, I began researching the mobile application industry, as I have extensive background as a software engineer. I thought that since around 2009, no one was making any money. Then I came across App Empire by Chad Mureta.
My current situation: no apps in the market, but several in development. Currently funding company through consulting gigs.
My plan: balance time between consulting and app development until revenue from apps provides salary.
I know this sounds a little basic, but I have six apps currently in development and will market them appropriately. I have something to pay the bills until my app ideas take off.
The name of the game in today's App Store seems to be researching and filling a need, and volume. If I can build between 10 and 20 apps that fill a serious need, I think I'll generate some serious revenue and hopefully will be able to exit in the next two or three years to buy my cabin, plane, 10 acres, etc.
