So MJ's recent video about spotting opportunity was great, and it got my brain firing.
If you haven't seen it, here it is: https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/fa...expose-your-next-millionaire-making-idea.html
He mentioned a Packing Service Company, where you would go in and pack everything up for the customer. It satisfies a pain point, which is packing up all your sh#t before a move. Never, ever fun to do. You could then franchise your model and expand into other states... Fastlane!
So I started doing some research, and chose a city (Austin TX), and found the most well known moving company in Austin.
- They've been around since 1988
- 80% of their business comes from referrals
- Services offered: Moving, Storage, Packing & Packing Supplies, Cleaning Services, and Home Cleaning for $75/hr
- High praise for their customer service
Essentially, they are the local, been around forever, all-in-one moving company. I think it is safe to assume that we can find one of these companies in each major city.
So, if you were to seriously consider going into this business, how would you attempt to differentiate yourself? We are focusing on one niche here, so obviously we need to be the very best when it comes to packing/unpacking somebody's belongings.
My take
Have an edge. My edge wouldn't be price. It would be the Experience Factor. I'm selling the satisfaction of a pain point, and an experience!
I position myself as an entertainment/packing company. Hire men and women who are easy on the eyes, in good shape, charismatic etc. Seems like hiring college kids would fit the criteria here. Customers can choose if they want men, women, or both to pack their stuff. Maybe along with the regular college kids who pack, are charismatic, easy on the eyes, we go one step further and bring in a certified massage therapist who would give a simple back, neck, and shoulder massage. How cool would it be to have some hot studs and studettes come in and pack your stuff for you as you are getting a massage? Stressed out - I think NOT!
This would be ideal for customers who want their stuff packed, and aren't moving that day since we do not facilitate the move. It might also be ideal for the typical college student, who normally moves his belongings by borrowing a buddy's truck and paying him back with a 12 pack of PBR.
So I've focused on creating an entertainment packing company that sells you stress relief, great service, and an experience that you might tell your friends about. I would be targeting the college aged crowd without a lot of disposable income. I would set these appointments up atleast one week in advance so I could effectively (time and cost) organize my team to be able to service the customers at the time of their choosing.
That's all I have for now... what would YOU do?
