Hi there, I have this business idea for a long time (like 3+ years). There are some ideas that come and go but this is one idea that I think is going to work and benefits all parties. I have no plan to implement it as I find this being quite challenging and I have no problem with people stealing it. Just wanna share my thoughts and see if this could really be made happen.
So the business idea is ..... Dog Themepark / Dog Rental (Rent a dog for $30/45 minutes)
Okay, before you all called me sick and disgusting, let me explain how it works.
WHO IS THE CUSTOMER & WHY THEY WILL PAY
So let's say, I wanna ask a girl out. She likes dog. I don't have one and she doesn't have one. Wouldn't it be a great idea where I can go somewhere and "rent" a dog for 45 minutes? I would totally pay for this as a date.
ANIMAL CRUELTY
This idea might seem cruel to the animals. However, there are millions of homeless dogs getting euthanized every year because the shelters can't support them (according to dosomething.org). If we could let them "work" for maybe 2-3 times a week, 45 minutes each, they might be able to "make" enough to pay for their own food, shelter, medical needs or even retirement (no need to work after certain age). Wouldn't this be a huge benefit to these animals who would otherwise have been killed?
And by "work", what they have to do is to be "walked" by renters accompanied by volunteers in a completely safe environment. Veterinarian on sites will determine whether the dogs are in a healthy mood or state to "work". It is not much different from pet owners paying stranger to walk their dogs when they are busy.
WHAT IF THEY GET ABUSED BY RENTERS?
Of course, this is a serious problem and we don't want this to happen at all. To prevent this, the business can be run in an enclosed park. The park will have all the playground and facilities. Renters can only rent the dogs and walk them in this park with all the cameras pointing at you like a casino. This way, you can not only protect the dogs but also protect the renters. If the dog all of a sudden gets ill, they will know it is not your fault.
DOES IT WORK FOR ALL PARTIES?
Of course, for a business to thrive, it will have to work for all parties. I believe this will definitely benefit the animals. I could see the demand for this but of course, no one knows for sure until this is tested. This will benefit the business if there is money to be made.
DEMAND
Talking about demands, I think this will also attract families with no dogs. If you don't like dogs, and your kids like it, you might not mind spending say $100 for your family visiting a dog theme park where your kids can play around with the dogs.
IMPLEMENTATION
Implementing this idea would be quite difficult as there are many uncertainties. I believe the idea can be first tested at a local zoo. They can get 10-15 dogs from a shelters and put them to "work" to see if there is any demand. If there is, they can then expand it to accommodate more homeless dogs.
DOWNSIDE
There are two downsides for this business (beside the chance of being sued by the Peta). First, this business probably can't be too profit-oriented. I think this can become a non-profit. This isn't too bad if this can save millions of animal's live.
Another downside is that there is an unknown demand. But of course, this is why this is just an idea. If people know it's going to work for sure, this would have been done already.
So that's it! Now if you still think this is cruel to animals, that's okay. I am not a sick person trying to make money from abandoned animals. I truly think this could potentially save lots of live while providing an alternative spot for couples and families with kids to go during the weekends.
What do you think? Feel free to comment on it.
