Just cannot figure out why cities, states, and the federal government is broke. All of the money they are collecting from sales, property, income, and other taxes, it just does not make any sense. I am from Illinois and maybe it is because we have incompetent politicians like Rod Blajogevich and bribe taking city of Chicago employees. I think Mayor Richard M. Daley is one of the biggest crooks who has had a horseshoe up his a$$ the past two decades. I remember when I got started in real estate in the ghettos of Chicago ten years ago. Building inspectors had their hands out and I was on their shit list since I did not bribe them. I was not the only one. It made me sick when I heard developers brag on how they got their permits and got an illegal basement apartment zoned legal for $5K. The true hero here is U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald who has been cracking down on corruption. I think Daley is more of a crook than Blagojevich, except Daley is smarter. He picked an former federal prosecutor as his inspector general and a former FBI agent as his police chief.
If I were a mayor or governor, I would run the city and state as a business. I would privatize as many departments as possible and work on an incentive program. There is no reason why the scavenger service should not be subcontracted to Groot or Waste Management. Whenever I visit a governmental agency, everyone is working on slow motion. I would employ alot of part timers so we can save money on benefits. Mayors and Governors should come from well to do families and should be a non for profit position so they are not tempted to get a kickback or bribes. Just my 0.02 cents.
