Consumption in China is exploding. The middle class and the rich had made a lot of money and now they are looking for ways to spend it.
And there's nothing else they like to spend their money on like luxury, high-end goods from the western world.
Furthermore:
1. Chinese are already no.1 buyers of luxury cars and no.1 buyers overall, as tourists.
2. Chinese e-commerce service Taobao.com handles more money in sales than Amazon.com and Ebay.com combined.
And this is only the beginning. Take a look at those infographics:
I think the export boom is well over. Now it's all about importing to China. Many, many expats are already making a killing importing goods like wine, whiskey, clothes of well known, luxury brands.
The demand is massive and is going to be massive 2, 5, 10 years from now.
Now is the time to act on those opportunities, the early-adopter advantage is going to be over very soon (while in some sectors it's already over for sure).
Low living costs are still there. True, life in 1st tier cities is getting more and more expensive, but you can still enjoy hi-tech infrastrucure and general abundance of goods and services in 2nd tier cities while spending $500-1000 a month.
Think bootstrapping, getting out of comfort zone, networking while having the bills easily covered. If you are a native English speaker or speak English fluently, you can always support yourself by working mere 20 hours a week and still save about a half of your paycheck. It's still possible to do without any certificates.
That's why I'm turning down an opportunity which is normally a dream come true for any Eastern European: a Green Card (Permanent Residence Permit) for the US.
I've won it but I'm not going to the meeting in Embassy and I'm not having my Green Card issued.
I'm going to China instead. I'm leaving on Monday Feb 10 for University Exchange program. Learning Chinese, learning the culture, making connections and teaching English for 5 months in 3rd tier city: Yiwu.
(BTW, it has the largest fair of small commmodities in the whole China/World. It's open 350 days a year)
Then I'm back for 3 months in Poland just to finish my BA degree. As soon as I'm done, I'm buying a one way ticket to 2nd or 1st tier city in China. To bootstrap businesses.
If you are interested in networking with me down the road, shoot me a PM.
Also, why don't we have here a discussion about import opportunities in China?
