I am currently an independent contractor for a fortune 500 company who pays me a nominal fee per product sold. The product is of a residual nature though I only get paid one time for each sale.

In my region I am the number one salesman, mostly due to the fact that I had the idea to sell the products at a retail location (another fortune 500 company) that is highly relevant to the particular products I sell. The main transactions at this retail location dovetail perfectly into what I sell, it's like hunting at the zoo.

My question is how do I go about selling this idea to either or both of these companies? Right now the retail locations that I sell out of are satellite locations (franchisee i.e. privately owned), I hired someone to sell out of one of their corporate stores but was kicked by a regional manager after a few days because of liability concerns.

I am certain logistical challenges like liability can be sorted out by the decision makers in respective companies.

My idea would involve these two companies forming a co-op of sorts where what I'm currently doing would just be replicated on a large scale.

The idea would be an economic windfall for both companies and forward their current missives long and short term particularly when it comes to outdoing competitors in their respective businesses.

It's literally a can't miss proposition for both companies, a homerun. How should I go about drafting a proposal, who needs to see it?

Is it possible for me to copyright the idea so that these megaliths don't just poach my idea?

What should I ask for in terms of payout? Optimally I would like a lump sum plus some form of residual compensation for any account derived from the co-op.
