Hey guys,
I'm a 19 year old third-year college student in LA. My major is applied mathematics since math is my favorite subject and I've enjoyed my computer science courses as well. With that said I'd consider writing a strong suit of mine too.
What drives me to enter the fastlane?
I absolutely hate the idea of working for a boss in a corporate setting for my entire career. Not only because the salary I'd make would have a limited ceiling cap (slowlane raises and promotions) but also - more importantly - since I believe that I will feel more fulfilled developing my own business from the ground up, being my own boss and creating something that the world eats up.
This also may be a cocky statement as I haven't generated even a grand yet from my own businesses, but I believe I have what it takes to make it to the fastlane. I've been ranked as high as #1 in the U.S. in tennis in my age group which I attribute to my superior mental game and greater will to succeed, rather than physical prowess. I learn quickly in the classroom regardless of subject matter (besides art haha). And damn do I want success. I've had plenty of jealous haters growing up and even family members who told me I was only capable of an average-paying corporate job (they desperately wanted me to become a doctor but I rebelled once I got to college). But I'm doing it for my own lulz in the end!
College saw a decline in my work ethic and 'on-paper' success as I felt I needed to catch up on the partying and socializing I missed out on in high school. Well, after having been part of a fraternity for a while I concluded that fulfillment for me does not come from that as much as it does from achieving challenging tangible goals and just making big shit happen for myself in real life.
What's my game plan for now?
1. My slowlane job of choice is being an actuary....reasonable hours, good salary (potential capital should I need it in a few years from now) and I'd have little trouble with the exams. Statistics grad school is my backup option in case I can't find an actuarial job.
2. Use my free time (which is ever increasing as my time management improves) to voraciously absorb this forum and start experimenting! I have already looked a fair amount into dropshipping but would like to explore other options as well. My former boss told me I should look into arbitrage trading of web traffic so I might give that a shot.
3. Improve my health and nutrition and always be open to opportunities to network and meet new people (had a random 2 hours conversation today in a Taco Bell with a successful entrepreneur, wouldn't have got to know him if I didn't start talking to him)! As an INTJ I sometimes fall into the habit of over-focusing too much on one task. Balance is often useful though in terms of expanding my limits and having new experiences I'm all for pushing myself to the extreme!
Also I'd love to hear any advice from anyone out there! I just have a (naive?) 19 year old 'life is so promising I bet I can do great things' perspective overall, so any reality checks out there from you more experienced folks would be greatly appreciated.
Warmest Wishes!
