I am assessing different ideas for a Fastlane business and wanted to see how other people came up with their ideas and rigorously assessed them. The "five commandments" of a Fastlane business are useful, but I want to delve deeper.
For instance, when you look at the ebooks phenomenon, one realizes that the authors are using a well-established distribution channel (Amazon) and can monetize their content. On the other hand, if one builds a content-based website, one needs to generate revenue by subscriptions or advertising, as well as do SEO, social media marketing, etc. And then, in the latter case, one is at the mercy of Google and your advertisers. You lose a lot of control.
In another case, if you have a "widget" that you want to sell, you need to find a distribution channel, whether that is a bricks-and-mortar store, Amazon, or your website (or all three). With a b-and-m case, you either have to have your store (a lot of capital to start off) or you need to go from one store to another to get your product in front of consumers.
So, I was hoping to hear how other people have arrived at their Fastlane idea and then how they assessed it's suitability.
Thanks!
David
