I haven't posted anything on here for a while so I thought it'd be worth sharing a bit of an update.
For background... I started an info product a while back but i've not had much (any) success

Anyway.. i've changed tactic and this is worth thinking about for people who are struggling to get started.
Think about your finances / income in 3 buckets:
1. Your salary from your normal slow lane job
2. "Self employed" income, side projects
3. Passive, fast lane businesses / investments
My ultimate goal is to move my income from bucket 1, to bucket 3. But i'm realistic about how I achieve that vision.
I tried to jump to bucket 3 straight away with my info product (above) but I lacked the skills and didn't have the patience, I wanted to see money coming in straight away, and I didn't have much spare cash to invest in testing out ideas. I have a mortgage to pay etc, etc (excuses, excuses)...
This is where bucket 2 comes in.
I have started a content writing business, which writes blog posts and provides marketing advice for a low, flat fee. After i'd written a few articles myself I started to outsource (using upwork and friends). I'm now in a position where I have a few clients, I do a few articles a month and make a bit of money, but my time investment is minimal. It won't scale indefinitely but it brings in some cash that I can invest in bucket 3.
Recently I have made a bigger jump. I have taken on a client on a monthly retainer, in exchange for content (using my aforementioned business as a reference) and strategy advice. Your average guy on the street is not familiar with digital marketing and growth hacks so it's been easy to sell and is a really beneficial relationship for both of us. Again... not fastlane, but building up some cash to invest.. and far more satisfying than the day job.
Aside from this, i've been helping out a lot of people, i'm a big believer in abundance (partly why i'm writing this!). I've built websites for people, given free marketing and strategy advice, and i've even set 2 other people up with a content writing business the same as mine. One of by best freelancers almost definitely now makes more money than me.
As for the title.. i'm a theorist, i'm crippled by ideas, and reading... I don't take anywhere near enough action. But the couple of steps i've taken above have served me well, and hopefully will provide inspiration for someone else as well.
