So I want to stay a little under the radar with regard to detail until I've got more of a lock on this App in terms of its stage of development. However, I'm still here to log progress and of course will divulge more as time goes on. I'm learning my way around the development softwares for the varios phone OS'. I have a basic understanding of programming so I can certainly wrap my mind around the concepts needed for this to work. I am still going to hire a programmer as not to waste time.
For now, the idea in development is absurdly simple on the surface. Eventually yes it gets complicated but its very easily developed in stages and thus doesn't require much to get off the ground and gauge interest in its core functionality. The current version does exactly what it was meant to do and nothing more. Now that I've got that together, I've been considering bringing in a more serious programmer to flesh out the prototype in a more complete manor, no crashing, proper opening and exit sequences, cleaner code ect.
My question to you is, what should this cost? Which I know is a difficult question but bear with me here. I'm just looking for a ballpark. The prototype has no need for social media integration, no user accounts, nor a need for any kind of database structure. It does use basic internet connectivity but for nothing more than reporting back once in the middle of the night with a little information about the use of the app for the day. Currently lets just say the apps function is about as simple as accessing the camera.
I've just never worked with App developers and have no idea what to expect from someone who has experience but isn't a App dev studio. I'm just trying to work with local aspiring programmers with a little freelance experience. I have no idea what their rates look like for freelance jobs. My hope is that some of you here have used freelancers before and can at least give me a rough outline of your experiences, time of development, team size, average cost for various aspects, ect.
-Sidenote to MJ, Got the book a day early. I'm through about 2 thirds of it so far and I find this book to be an excellent read. I find it to be a confirmation of the practices I've adopted over the last few years living in LA. To know I'm not alone in my contempt for the slowlane indoctrination, what most consider my craziness, is nice. To see thoughts I've often not put into words, In plain text, allows me to see a few of them from a different perspective, its almost like having been critiqued by myself and its very sobering.
