I have always been interested in the concession business. When I was about 13, I worked for this guy selling snow cones out of wagons, and we were bringing in about $1,000 per day (And that was just from the wagons, not including concession trailers) and I saw things that I thought could be improved. Last year, at 17, I bought an industrial snow cone machine, supplies, and a wagon and got to work (all at a weeks notice, no plan/prep time). This year, I plan to grow from my experiences.
Tonight, I was browsing through Craigslist when I noticed that a guy about 4 hours south of me is selling his snow cone (Shaved Ice) business. Comes with shack, all supplies, machine, etc. for $3,000. (The machine alone is $2,000 new) He's been trying to sell it since the summer, so I figure I can get him lower, but I don't see much sense in it. Based on the photos, it's a good looking building. Not some crap hole shack that Billy Bob built out of some old wood behind his barn.
As an 18 year old who hasn't even graduated High School yet, I think that this is a very big step for me. While I know I'm going to get comments saying "But it's not Fastlane" and the like, I still believe it is a good idea.
I have plenty of ideas to scale and expand, but obviously the first step is starting.
