This is something that's happened to me just recently:
I go to a website (NOT through PPC).
I mouse around a bit.
Then I go surfing somewhere else.
A day or two goes by.
I come here.
Lo and behold, there's a banner on the front page from the site I visited a few days ago! (mantelsdirect.com)
It's been following me around the internet.
Do I click on it?
Nope.
But it's a constant reminder of something I've been looking at doing (buying firepits for our inn).
So, instead of telling me how p*ssed off someone would get w/this approach,
let's, instead, come up with creative, fun, and funny ideas for how to make this something people would enjoy.
Kinda like the 2010 equivalent of the Burma Shave signs-- where you're looking forward to seeing where the next one pops up.
I'm working w/my PPC guys to do just that, right now.
Idea would be: First time the banner comes up, it has a specific message/landing page.
Next time it comes up, a different (added) message, and different landing page.
You get the idea.
Not sure if google allows this yet-- but we're trying to figure out a way how.
