A person I know has a printing business for general merchandise and I have discovered that reprinting slogans and general sayings is murky territory. It got me to thinking if it is not copyrighted according to the gov. websites does that mean it is general use? As my understanding when you write something you automatically have protection. I wondered if anyone has had any legal issues with this? Although I believe they have to be able to prove original authorship. Seems like a relevant discussion; for example if you had a T shirt company what steps would you take in making sure your slogans are not infringing? Perhaps this isn’t as big of an issue as I think it is. Any thoughts?
