I had to go to traffic court today to help my mom. She was involved in a small fenderbender and received a citation we are contesting. Traffic court was a hoot and so sad at the same time. There were about 50 cases presented while we were there.
It was a hoot listening to all the stories of all the cases. The excuses of why the other defendants had their third ticket in one month, why they had not appeared in court before now, why they were speeding through a school zone with a suspended license in a car with no tags, inspection, or insurance, .....
It was so sad listening to the excuses of why they didn't have the money for the fines. The judge was working out payment plans with the defendants. The payments were $25 a week until their $150 was paid off. Several defendants requested community service to work the debt off at $100/day. One lady had over $900 in fines and chose to work it off.
I was just amazed at how fortunate my family is. No one was hurt in the accident. We had the money to pay the fines if we chose. We had the resources to get the car repaired. We also had the means to rebut the ticket in court.
I know we are all feeling squeezed by the economy right now but I do believe we all are keeping a roof over our heads, food on the table, and plans for the future. Please remember to be thankful for what you have, everyday. Life is good!
